Eligibility for a student loan in the UK?

Hi. I need to apply for a student loan in the UK, but I’m not sure if I am eligible. I’m a UK national, BUT have lived in Greece for the past 5-6 years prior to coming to uni. I lived in London before then. I started uni in 2007/2008, but didn’t apply for a loan that year.

I was filling in the online student loan application, when it asked was ‘I living in the UK 3 years prior to uni?, and if not where and for how long’. So, i filled that in, but then it dawned on me, what if I that ruins my chance of getting a loan? I hear some students don’t get loans. (I’m not classed as EU, but as UK) Plus, my National Insurance number is registered to my London address. Do they cross check your information with the uni, or with National Insurance records?

You are not entitled to a UK student loan.

You could lie on your application but would a fraud conviction look good to future employers.

Student loans information is passed to the tax office so they can start taking payments from you when you graduate so it will show up quickly if you try this.
